However, I’m going to teach you how to start a business online with no experience. So you can have a happier life, be successful, and gain the work/life balance you have always wanted with just a few simple skills.

I’ve been there, scrolling through the internet for answers. I was frustrated with reading articles, watching the videos, and listening to the podcast. I just became more educated and more confused, but I never got started. (Well, eventually I got started…giggles)

My mission to make everything E.A.S.I.E.R™ link to about page when it comes to how to start an online business began from my own struggles. I knew I had to solve a few problems.

I didn’t want to be tied to a desk, office, or even a chair. I wanted to spend time with my family, travel, and enjoy life. That’s why I started this journey.

I’m a mom, and I understand mom guilt. Balancing work and home is always a struggle. That’s why I searched for easy ways to make money from home. There isn’t anything that totally stress free, but I knew an online business would reduce stress, and I would feel more balanced.

At first, I was looking for a digital side gig, but I wasn’t sure it was a lucrative business model.

Let’s dive in and get started. I am so excited to see you grow! Boss Chick Tip™:  Remember to journal along the way because I don’t want to miss one bit of your success story! Let’s do it!

Understanding Your Entire Purpose

The first thing first is to understand your purpose.  Why do you want this business? What will it do for you and your life?  You may not know or understand all the details right now. But, I’m sure you have an overall vision of what you want your life to look like.  I’m betting you know how you want to feel and what you want to do in the future.  Habit number two of one of my favorite books by Steven Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, says, to begin with, the end in mind.

“People are working harder than ever, but because they lack clarity and vision, they aren’t getting very far. They, in essence, are pushing a rope with all of their might.”

Covey’s Habit two is focused on our use of imagination. Use your imagination to envision what you cannot see now.

The physical outcome is driven by the mental layout. We have a choice. We can be intentional and make a genuine effort not only to visualize but actually to write down what we want to see physically in our lives. We own our wins, and our losses.

Basically, we have the choice to take control of our life, or we can choose to do nothing, and we give other people the power to shape and mold our lives, whether we like it or not.

We are dream catchers; we take control and make things happen. We just have to practice what we preach and make it happen for ourselves.

Boss Chick Tip: You must imagine…If you can’t see it, how will you achieve it?

If you need more help finding your purpose.  Maybe the Japanese concept called Ikigai will help.  I define Ikigai as discovering the value of life and the reason for being.  It’s your passion, mission, profession, and vocation all rolled into one.  I like to refer to it as your “Mojo” in my Austin Powers voice.

See The Ikigai Model below:

Use your imagination to think of what impact on others you would like to leave? What contributions and achievements do you want to accomplish?

This tip helps you make sure that not only your business but your life aligns with your core values.  Living and doing business with a purpose will ensure you have a better quality of life.

In short, you have to begin with the end in mind. It’s what will pull you even if you feel stuck, defeated, and hopeless.

Now we understand our purpose and our vision.

Let’s move further.

Pick Your Niche Market

Business is all about having customers willing to buy your service or products. Isn’t it? This is why we place the audience first. It doesn’t matter if you have the best product or service in the world without an audience, you’d be spinning your wheels.

It’s easy to second guess and question:

“Who will read my blog?”

“Will anyone be interested or willing to listen to me?”

“I don’t know if I’m ready to start a business.”

Those thoughts are limiting and aren’t the truth. If you focus on limiting beliefs, you’ll have limited success.

So let’s have unlimited beliefs and imagine, there are a ton of people relating to you, not just your friends and family. 😉

Don’t be surprised if your friends and family aren’t your greatest fans. Writer Maya Spikes provides Four tips for when the people you love don’t “get” your business

But don’t worry…

Complete strangers will relate to you and reach out to you, asking you about your journey as a solopreneur, podcaster, blogger, influencer, or whichever online entrepreneur path you take. They’ll want to know how you grew your tribe, and how you started your digital dynasty.

Why can’t my business be for everyone?

People act according to their interests. Your friends, family, and others might not have an interest in what your new business has to offer.  That’s totally okay, there are many people out there who are interested in what you are providing.

Your tribe is waiting for you to solve its problems.  Not everyone will be a fit, and that’s the way you want it.  There are so many people that fit your user persona that will gladly walk your customer journey map with their phones in hand, wanting more.

According to eMarketer, mobile retail eCommerce sales reached $2.3 trillion, a 23.2% increase over the previous year, and still growing.

That’s a huge number!

This is why, if you target the right niche audience who have the same interest in what you are providing.  And you offer value and speak their language, selling will not be a problem.

Don’t get stressed out! Read this blog post. How Do I Choose a Profitable Niche Market? (link to the blog post…How do I choose a profitable niche?) It will teach you how to have an enhanced connection with your customer segment over your competitors.  You’ll learn how to avoid the worries if it will work or not; how to choose an evergreen audience, that will withstand the market and the trends.

Take it from me, it’s so frustrating, trying to make everything perfect, instead, choose your tribe, platform, and get started.  If you don’t get it right at first take a step back review your actions, revise and try again.

Solving problems for your customers

After identifying your audience, it’s important to respond to them by solving their problems.  Solving their problem becomes your purpose.

Here are a few ways to find out what your customer needs and wants:

  • Join Facebook for groups in your niche market
  • Use search engines to reverse engineer solutions by searching for the problem. For example, If you are in the dog niche market search, “How can I train my puppy?”
  • Do an online poll
  • Do online research to find who and where your successful competition hangs out.
  • Try searching
  • Search

Now you should be able to determine based on your research what mode of communication your ideal client prefers. Since you know where they hang out. You should hang out there too!

What is your platform to connect with them?  How will you position yourself to be an authority for their needs?

Is it Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, LinkedIn, TicTock, or somewhere else? Do they prefer reading blogs, listening to podcasts, or watching videos?

Take the time to figure it out so you won’t be spending all your time on one platform when your audience is somewhere else.

Khroros, created a chart to help identify which social media platform works best for different industries.

Start building valuable content on a few social media platforms consistently.  It’s best to batch and create content in advance.

Don’t focus on making money at this point. Focus on solving the problem.  The money will come soon enough. Invest your precious time and hard work on giving your audience valuable content.  The value you provide will turn them into raving buyers.

What Will You Offer

This article is all about starting an online business with no experience. However, if you are able to read this post, you have experience in something.

  • What problems have you had and solved?
  • What do people ask for your advice about?
  • After you searched Facebook for groups in your niche, do you have a solution to their issues?
  • What are you good at?

Start by providing content around what you think you want to offer.

Here’s a super cool trick to offer exactly what your tribe wants from you!

  • Post “Ask Me Anything” in your social media stories.
  • What are they saying in your comments?
  • What are they saying in your competitors’ comments?
  • Use analytics, what do they respond to the most?
  • Use polls, quizzes, and surveys
  • Use private messages and DM’s

Your potential followers’ responses, requests, and comments will tell you what you should do next. It’s okay if your engagement is not very high, and you only have a few commenters. Create for the few that are responding to you because they make up your core audience.

If you’re interested, leave me a comment below, and I will share how to retarget other customers just like your customers.

You would then take the input from the feedback you received and create a solution. Based on that information, you will provide a freebie. It could be a PDF, video, a mini-course, a template, a checklist as long as it’s solving their problem.

They will love you for the help and become your tribe member supporting your efforts.

Building Your Brand

When you begin building your brand, it’s beneficial to know what the entire process will look like to you and to your customer.  This is called the customer journey. It’s the path they will take to your end product. However, it continues to grow and evolve according to the customers’ needs.

The first action a customer takes to show interest in what you have to offer is opting into a lead magnet.  However, the process of the steps for a lead magnet opt-in is called a lead magnet cycle, map, or a lead magnet funnel.  A lead magnet funnel is a map of the process.  Here is a visual example of a typical lead magnet funnel:

You are gathering loyal followers by listening and providing valuable content in the form of a freebie or lead magnet.  This is how you build a brand.

The freebie that you created is actually a marketing tool to grow your tribe through an email list.

There’s a high possibility that people will find your content and come to your page for a single product, service, or article and leave forever. We certainly don’t want that.

To reduce this, that’s why you collect their email address in exchange for your valuable freebie.

This graphic explains 7 reasons why you need to build an email list.

Some experts say that each person on your email list equates a value of $1 per email address.  The potential value in your pocket of $1 on the low-end to over $12 in your pocket a month per address. So that means if you had 1000 people on your list, that could be an extra grand a month or $12,000 or more a month.

Of course, most newbies aren’t anywhere close to $12,000 a month. They are mostly just glad to get subscribers. Many of them don’t even have anything to sell yet.  But, they understand the value of their content and their list.

It’s paramount to a successful brand.

The primary key is to retain the tribe you worked so hard to gain while on the other hand attracting new customers.

There’s no shortcut to success, but bringing more solutions to your audience’s problems can shorten the curve. You just have to keep going until you reach the life and business you love.
